BRITT SAMUELS JR.

Milan Weekly presents this month the talented photographer Britt Samuels Jr. We had the chance to interview him and talked abut everything from photography to fashion.

Hello Britt, welcome to Milan Weekly! Would you love to tell us about the very beginning of your career?

I actually started my photography path in 2017. I was hired to take product photos for a small boutique. I continue to do the same today, but now I have a focus on my fine art photography. My biggest influencer was Herb Ritts growing up. I want to put out art just as striking as his.

Tell us about your first artwork.

Actually, focus on nudes. I believe our bodies are art. I love antiquities! So I like to mimic statues as if it were modern day with a twist.

How did your work evolve in time?

I knew I had something special with this series when I myself would stare at them. I now know how to evoke a story in photography.

In this specific editorial, what do you love the most?

I love how each of the models tell a similar story. Strength, accomplishment and sometimes loneliness is what I see when I look at these. It’s what strong individuals go through daily. They tell my story in a way.

When others view this series they come up with their interpretation of what they see. It’s very special.

Are there some other artists that you would love to work with?

Steven Klien is at the top of my list. Then music artists like Bjork, FKA Twigs, Solange. I also would love to work for a few fashion magazines as well.

Have you ever been to Milan?

Not yet. Definitely on my list!

A personal question, what is the country you love the most?

I’ve only been to Mexico, which is a beautiful country. I want to experience europe next

Love or fame?

Love conquers all!

What is your relationship with fashion and what is your favorite style?

I love fashion! Jean Paul Gaultier is my all time favorite. I would love to work with his Atelier .

I love Mugler, Dior, and Fendi this year. My style is clean and modern with a flare of Avant Garde.

Tell us a secret that you’re ready to share with our readers.

I started taking pictures when I was 12. I’m now turning 50. My point to that is to say Believe in yourself! Don’t listen to anyone telling you the opposite of what you want to do. I’ve been told by many what I can’t do or I was crazy to believe I can do something as becoming an artist. Be your own cheerleader. Don’t give up!
