“Shoot as many different types of photography as possible. Landscape, product, portrait, marco, long exposure etc. You’ll learn something every time you release the shutter, that knowledge is invaluable”.

Hello, would you love to tell us about the very beginning of your career?

I was lucky enough to become a photo assistant in the 80s. The bulk of that experience was in hot light studio’s shooting film.

Tell us about your first work.

As a freelance photographer. I shot mostly on spec. (speculation) which was pretty common in those days. In California we shot a lot of bathing suit material, then blow them up into posters. Then sell the poster back to the bathing suite vendors on the boardwalks.

How did your work evolve in time?

Like everyone else we have shot the standard markets. Wedding’s, Events, Senior Portraits etc. We have retired from the normal workforce now.So we are lucky enough to be able to shoot only what we want to, without the stress or worry of financial dependence on any given project.

In this specific editorial, what do you love the most?

I love the mood and feel of the lighting on this submission.

Have you ever been to Italy?

We have never been to Italy, but would love to shoot there someday. It’s beautiful, with amazing architecture.

Tell us a secret that you’re ready to share with our readers.

I’m not sure it’s a secret, it’s more of an advice statement. Shoot as many different types of photography as possible. Landscape, product, portrait, marco, long exposure etc. You’ll learn something every time you release the shutter, that knowledge is invaluable. You’d be surprised how oftenthat knowledge or technique can be applied to something else you may be commissioned to do.
